The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced that they had signed pitcher Matt Iannazzo. A former Norwalk High star, Iannazzo will enter his first season with the Bluefish and third season overall in pro baseball.

Last year, the 5-9, 170-lb. southpaw pitched for two Chicago Cubs Single-A affiliates—the the Boise (Idaho) Hawks and the Kane County Cougars (Geneva, Ill.). He compiled a combined 2-2 record with a 3.38 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 31 relief appearances, totaling 41.2 innings. He began his professional career in 2012 with the Arizona League Cubs and the Boise Hawks after being signed as a free agent by the Cubs. In addition, Iannazzo appeared in three games for the High-A Daytona Cubs that season.

Iannazzo, who played college ball at the University of Pittsburgh, participated in the Cape Cod Baseball League, widely recognized as the top amateur baseball circuit in the country, for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in 2010.

“We’re excited to bring a local product like Matt on board for this season,” said Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. “He was very impressive during a recent workout for us, and we think he can succeed in this league.”

The Bridgeport Bluefish are charter members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The home opener for the 'Fish will be on Friday, April 26, against the York Revolution. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. For further information, call 203-210-BLUE (2583) or visit
