Norvin Green State Forest, NJ Blue Mine Photo: USGS
This rugged 4982 acre forest is part of the Wyanokie Wilderness Area, accessible by foot only. This is a wilderness area, yet you will see the New York City skyline on a clear day. Most of the trails are marked "difficult", this is interior forest and rocky terrain.
A no fee park.
Many miles of trails are available, trail maps are available at the Weis Ecology Center. Among the favorites are Otter Hole and Wyanokie High Point. Trails maintained by the New York New Jersey Trail Conference, which also publishes the maps.

Norvin Green includes part of the Highlands Trail, which will run from the Delaware River to the Hudson River when completed.
Who is Norvin Green? When definate information can be unearthed, it will be included here. It seems he may have been a son-in-law of Abram S. Hewitt, a New Yorker who had a summer home in New Jersey. Perhaps someone from the historical society will enlighten us.
