The Big Ten Network will stream the Northwestern Spring game live at Noon CDT on the web. The game will air on tape delay on Sunday night at 8pm CDT.
NU radio play-by-play announcer Dave Eanet will call the game with former Northwestern Running Back Jacob Schmidt.
The Wildcats will usher in the Kain Colter era at Quarterback after Dan Persa led the Wildcats for the last two seasons. Colter started the first three games at Quarterback last season before Persa returned from an achilles injury. He finished the season as Northwestern’s leading rusher and third leading receiver.
Players to watch offensively other than Colter, include running back Treyvon Green and wide receivers Demetrius Fields, Venric Mark and Tony Jones on the offensive side of the ball. Running Back Mike Trumpy and converted Quarterback, now Superback Evan Watkins. On defense, linebacker David Nwabuisi and 2011 freshman all-america safety Ibrahim Campbell will lead the returnees.
In an interview with Skip Myslenski on NUSports.Com, Wildcat Head Coach Pat Fitzgerald said that their three areas they are looking to improve defensively for 2012 are Communication, getting off the field on third down and avoiding giving up what he called explosion plays. Northwestern finished the 2011 season 114th out of 120 FBS schools in third down conversion percentage defense.
Northwestern will open the season September 1st at Syracuse before concluding the month with four straight home games. That includes the Big Ten season opener September 29th vs. Indiana.
