This weekend some of the best figure skaters from Alaska, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Washington will gather in Tacoma, Washington to compete at the Northwest Pacific Regional Figure Skating Championships. It will be a great competition as skaters from the pre-juvenile level to the senior levels will be competing at Sprinker Recreational Center, October 5-8.
Skaters who place in the top four, at the senior level, will go on to compete at the Pacific Coast Sectionals and those who place at the top four at sectionals will then move on to the 2014 U.S. Nationals.
Skaters to keep an eye on in the ladies senior division, is Alison Jeffers, from the Seattle Skating Club, who placed second in last year's regionals and 10th in sectionals. Cassandra Smith from the Lakewood Winter Club, is also a contender as she came in second at last year's junior ladies regionals. She has now moved to the senior ladies division, so hopefully her senior debut will be successful.
In the junior ladies division, Claire Gillespie, from the Anchorage Figure Skating Club, is also one to look out for as she came in fourth at regionals last year.
Hosted by the Lakewood Winter Club, this competition is open to the public. One day passes are $15.00 a person and all-event passes can be purchased for $35.00. Kids who are 6 and under are free. There is nothing like seeing spins, jumps and skaters up close and in person. So bring your kids, root for your favorite skaters and enjoy a great weekend of watching live figure skating.
