Northland Rosarium, our local growers of hardy, own root roses, has announced their schedule of 2013 events and seminars.
Opening Day is this year is April 17, 2013. This year, open hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday; closed Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays for shipping.
April 20, 2013 is the first of the Saturday Seminars series; Pruning Seminar #1 starts at 11 a.m. with members of the Spokane Rose Society demonstrating proper pruning techniques on the various types of roses. Come and watch and ask questions about pruning and rose culture. Class will be held rain or shine so dress appropriately! Free, no registration required.
April 27, 2013 at 11 a.m. is Fertilizing and Planting Roses. Learn proper soil conditioning, fertilizing, planting and transplanting. Learn how to get your roses off to a good start!
May 4, 2013 at 11 a.m. is Pruning Seminar #2 for those who can’t attend #1; the same things will be covered.
On Saturday, May 11, 2013, they will be at the Garden Expo at Spokane Community College from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.. This is a great event every year; free parking and free admission.
May 12 is the only open Sunday this year; from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. they will celebrate Mother’s Day with a free demonstration on how to make a table top mini-garden.
May 25, 2013 at 11 a.m. is What’s New in Vegetable Gardening with Brian Green, greenhouse instructor at Spokane Community College and owner of ‘Greens’. Brian will talk about the benefits of growing the new grafted tomatoes, which you’re sure to end up wanting to try in your garden. Also for sale will be some of the tried and true varieties for this area. Brian is growing a wide variety of tomatoes, vegetables and annuals at his new greenhouse on Paradise Prairie.
On June 8, 2013 at 11 a.m. Lynn Schafer, Spokane Rose Society Master Rosarian will give a Powerpoint presentation on Rose Pests and Diseases. You’ll come away with a lot of information on identifying what’s bugging your roses.
June 22, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. is A Day in the Garden and the Spokane Rose Society Rose Show. Bring your cute roses to enter into the judging! There will be vendors, food, informative speakers, and special sales.
July 20, 2013 is Clematis Day! James Earl, clematis specialist, is traveling to Germany to attend the World Clematis Convention and the Rose and Clematis Festival. He’ll be sharing photos and information from that trip at 11 a.m.
Saturday, August 3, 2013 marks the end of the selling season; there will be special sales on plants and gift items. Phyllis Stephens, local gardening expert and writer will talk about roses and their companion plants.
