Get ready to walk the plank this weekend at the 5th annual Northern California Pirate Festival. Pirates far and wide will descend upon a magical makeshift pirate land on the Vallejo waterfront this Saturday and Sunday, June 18th and 19th for a swashbuckling good time. Hailed as the largest pirate festival in the country, last year drew over 38,000 visitors with over half in pirate costume. Costumes are encouraged as well as pirate talk so start practicing your "arghs" and brush up on your pirate jokes.
The annual pirate festival has one goal and that is to create an entertaining event where everyone who loves pirates will have a great time and feel welcome. This year there will be countless pirate themed activities like nautical music, sword fighting, sailing, cannon-battles, maritime crafts, pirate "brawling", pirate food and drinks, pirate booty for sale and much more. Two stages will entertain honorary pirates all day with buccaneer beats from famous pirate groups like Tom Lewis, The Seadogs, Dogwatch Nautical Band, and Skip Henderson. Music isn't the only entertainment as Captain Jack Spareribs will perform magic and ventriloquism for the kids on the Treasure Island Children's Stage. The Tortuga Main Stage will also feature swordfights from Court of the Pirate Lords and The Brotherhood of Albion, and the Brothers of Oceanic Mercenaries will blow stuff up like pirates do best.
Vendors will be on hand selling all sorts of pirate booty. Some notable vendors are A Pirate's Delight selling adult pirate clothes and The Salty Sisters Washwares & Wicks selling pirate themed toiletries. Come hungry as there will be plenty of meaty treats like turkey legs and tri-tip from The Black Hart Fyne Pirate Grub as well as vegetarian favorites from Arrr-T-Chokes. This is a family friendly event, so bring the kids as there will be plenty of pirate themed activities to keep your brood busy. In addition there will be a Treasure Hunt for $5,000 in gold coins and pirate booty each day at 4:30pm on the main stage for both adults and kids.
The Northern California Pirate Festival is sure to be a memorable weekend. The best pirate and nautical entertainers from around the bay as well as across the high seas will be on hand to show you a scallywagging good time. Ahoy, all hands on deck!
