On Monday, Sept. 23, a ceremony was held for NAIPTA for being "the best small transportation organization in the country."
The system has been awarded $35 million in grants in the past year, noted Leslie Rogers of the American Public Transportation Association, which was formed in 1882. Among other things, the web site for the organization includes a long list of links for public transportation services across the nation. Since its founding, APTA has lobbied the U.S. Congress to work toward improving new developments in public transportation.
"They must have great grant writers," noted Michael Melaniphy, president and CEO of APTA, commenting on the fact the organization has received $35 million in grants in recent years.
