North Texas teenager dies from flu

Of the 19 flu caused deaths in North Texas this year, one of the two children passed away this weekend at the Children’s Medical Center of Plano. 2014 began with an above average level of influenza like symptoms, which has only continued to rise since the 2013-2014 influenza season began on September 29, 2013. Children are high priority due to the symptoms of this season being harsher than it has been in years before.

According to Fox 4 News of Dallas, Texas

Currently, 26 people are already being hospitalized at JPS with the flu, and seven are in intensive care.

Not only are Doctors and hospitals urging parents to keep their children home if they show signs of having the flu, Collin County’s Medical Reserve Corps will be giving away free flu shots this Saturday from 12pm – 4pm at the East Plano Community Center located at 1890 Avenue K, in Plano. These free flu shots will be available for those ages 6 months through 64 years of age.
