North Texas has personal tie to missions program

In addition to missionaries Jerri and Bill Savuto, North Texas United Methodists have a personal tie to the global United Methodist mission program known as The Advance.

The current director of The Advance, Shawn Baker, is a graduate of Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. A commissioned deacon with the North Texas Annual Conference, Ms. Baker founded and directed Project Transformation, a summer program for urban youngsters, in Dallas prior to her selection to lead The Advance.

The Advance is a program of designated giving, through which United Methodists can contribute directly to 1,000 mission projects around the world.
