North Ridgeville's Corn Festival puts corn in the spotlight

One of Ohio's biggest crops and one of the most popular is corn and now you have the chance to celebrate all things corn while treating your palate to hot, steamed or roasted corn at the 40th annual North Ridgeville Corn Festival on Friday, August 8, Saturday, August 9 and Sunday, August 10. North Ridgeville is 27 miles west of Cleveland and it is approximately a 30 minute drive.

North Ridgeville Corn Festival Corn will be everywhere at this free, 3-day family-friendly event with activities to satisfy all age groups. One of the highlights of the Festival will be the Corn Eating Contest open to ages 5-99 where contestants will vie for the title of Corn Eating Champ. There is a $5 entry fee and you must register to take part in this contest. Late registration is available at the Festival from 4 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The contest starts promptly at 4:30 p.m. All proceeds from the entry fees go to North Ridgeville Community Care.

You don't have to take part in the Corn Eating Contest to enjoy eating corn at the Festival. There will be plenty of roasted or steamed corn available for purchase in addition to various other food items.

Other activities at the North Ridgeville Corn Festival include a car show, a horseshoe tournament, an appearance by the Metro Health Life Flight Helicopter, amusement rides ($18 per day for unlimited rides) and children's games. Also for the kids (at Poppie's Kids CORNer) there will be crafts, performances by Keith the Magic Man (with his balloon creations) and appearances by Sandy the Shark (courtesy of the Greater Cleveland Aquarium).

Free musical entertainment will be provided by Captain Fantastic The Magic of Elton John, 52nd Street, The Together Band, Live Faith (Christian Rock Band) and Joy UNSPEAKABLE.

Don't miss the Festival parade starting at North Ridge Plaza (34900 Center Ridge Rd.) on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

The North Ridgeville Fishing Club will be offering their Passport to Fishing Program on Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. - noon at South Center Park for kids 17 and under. Participants will proceed through 6 different stations (Fish Habitat & Handling, Fishing Knots & Rigging, Casting, Smart Boating & Safe Boating, Ready, Set Boat Station and Local Information Station) where they can participate in hands-on activities relating to boating, fishing and aquatic stewardship. Be aware that this event will take approximately one hour, 45 minutes to complete.

Visitors will also be able to attend the 24th annual Arts & Crafts Fair all three days of the Festival located at the Office for Older Adults (Senior Center) on the grounds of the Festival. Hours for the Arts & Crafts Fair are 6 p.m - 10 p.m. on Friday, noon - 10 p.m. on Saturday and noon - 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The Corn Festival will have fireworks displays on Friday evening and Saturday evening at 10:30 p.m.

Hours for the North Ridgeville Corn Festival are 6 p.m. - 11 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. on Saturday and noon - 6 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free but remember, there is a charge for the amusement rides.
