Hyon Song-woi, a popular North Korean pop singer, was executed by firing squad. She was also the ex-lover of Kim Jong-Un, North Korea's young leader. According to MSN on Aug. 29, Hyon is one of 12 musicians and singers arrested in August and executed just three days after their arrest.
The execution of this group of artists was carried out in front of a crowd of “forced witnesses,” who were shuffled off to prison camps once they were forced to watch this carnage. Hyon and her band members were arrested on August 17 and executed just three days later after being accused of making sex tapes.
Hyon and the Unhasu Orchestra were known in North Korea for singing several patriotic hits. One of her popular songs translates into “Excellent Horse-Like Lady.” Accusations that she and her band members created and sold sex videos was enough to have them put to death by a firing squad.
Kim Jong-Un dated Hyon after they struck up a relationship 10 years ago. Kim's father did not approve and as far as the public was concerned, Kim ended the affair, although rumors continued that the pair were still an item.
One of the theories coming out of this execution report today is that Kim's wife, Ri Sol-ju, objected to Hyon's fame. Ri is a former member of the same orchestra that her husband's ex-lover's pop singer was with.
Kim made the headlines a while back when Dennis Rodman, the former NBA star, stated that he is proud to call the North Korean leader his friend. This is the man that Rodman thought was misunderstood by the masses.
