A nightmare in Korea appears to be turning more toward reality daily where the threats of war with the possible use of nuclear weapons is shaking up the world. On April 5, 2013, the BBC reported, North Korea warns foreign embassies to prepare escape. North Korea has told foreign embassies in Pyongyang that the country cannot guarantee their safety in the event of conflict, and to consider evacuating all of their employees. These moves by North Korea have come amid threats to attack U.S. and South Korean targets.
On Friday British diplomats said North Korea had asked them to respond by April 10 on what support the embassy would need in the event of any evacuation. A British Foreign and Commonwealth Office statement said, "We are consulting international partners about these developments. No decisions have been taken, and we have no immediate plans to withdraw our Embassy." Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow was "deeply concerned about the escalation of tension, which for now is verbal".
The Korea Herald has reported, N. Korea loads two medium-range missiles on mobile launchers. Seoul military sources said on Friday that North Korea has loaded two intermediate-range missiles onto mobile launchers and has hidden them in an unidentified facility near the east coast. This has triggered speculation that the North is ready for an abrupt missile launch. Such moves by the North has prompted the United States to send its advanced missile defense system to its base on the Pacific Ocean island of Guam. And South Korea has sent its Aegis destroyers, which are equipped with advanced radar systems, to the East and West Seas.
If a war breaks out in Korea the cost to Koreans would certainly be catastrophic. And if a nuclear confrontation occurs the radiation clouds could undermine the well being of people throughout Asia and worldwide, even if North Korea's missiles do not reach American targets. People across the world should take this threat of war seriously and make every effort possible to convince North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that the world wants peace, not war, for Korea, and would like him to join in international peace initiatives immediately.
