While many people are heading indoors to escape the single-digit temperatures that have taken over the region in the past few days, others will be bundling up and lacing up their ice skates for a spin around the North Fayette Township ice skating rink. The rink was originally scheduled for mid-December; however, warmer temperatures that filtered into Pittsburgh through early January pushed back its opening until this Friday.
The rink located at the North Fayette Township Park on North Branch Road will hold several public skating times over the weekend beginning with its 7-9 p.m. session on Friday. Two Saturday sessions, one from 2-4 p.m. and another from 7-9 p.m., as well as a Sunday afternoon session from 2-4 p.m., will round out the weekend’s skating activities.
Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children. A very limited number of skates are available to rent for an additional $1. Donations from skate rental will benefit West Allegheny Hockey volunteers who are serving as rink staff.
All children must submit the rink’s mandatory waver, which needs to be signed by an adult, prior to skating. Waivers are available at the rink as well as on the North Fayette Township’s website. Click here for a waiver.
