The North East River Yacht Club (NERYC) and the Hances Point Yacht Club (HPYC), both located in the North East River on the upper Chesapeake Bay, have begun holding weekly Friday evening sailboat races.

The races are being held jointly between both clubs, with after race festivities being held at each respective club house. One week it will be NERYC, the next week will be HPYC.

Spectators are welcome to enjoy the waterfront view at either club, from the patio at NERYC to the new porch at HPYC.

The races began last friday, on June, 20th, 2014, and saw 8 boats participate in two different classes. The winds were light but there was drama in the corners and the finish line, as another beautiful Friday night came to a close.

The series runs from June 20th, to September 5th, with the first race run at NERYC and the venue switching to HPYC the following week, alternating back every other week.

Skippers meetings are at 6:15pm which will be broadcast on VHF channel 71, and an on water start out in front of NERYC at 6:45pm.

Contacts for the events are: Mike Wagner (NERYC) - (302)-242-6344 or Rick Fellows (HPYC) - (610)-268-4572.

Each club also will hold races throughout the sailing season on weekends, see each clubs respective websites for details.

Hances Point tried to run a race on Sunday, June, 22nd, only to be cancelled due to lack of wind halfway around the marks.

keep your eyes peeled on the North East River for all the racing action this summer.
