On Wednesday, Dec 11, Christopher McComas, an IT Engineer at Marshall University, saw on Twitter that the University of North Dakota football team was accepting applications for its Head Football Coach position, and decided to throw his resume, and unique coaching philosophies, into the ring.
The hilarious resume, with a promise to never punt and "chuck the pigskin", a reference to throwing the ball with fervor on every down, has since gone viral on social media.
McComas has no formal coaching experience, but cited his years of playing the popular video game, Madden, on the Sega Genesis has more than prepared him for the opportunity. In addition, McComas stated that he has since refined his skills from the Genesis days playing NCAA Football on the Playstation 2. Even claiming he took a low-level team from his home state of West Virginia, Marshall University, from the depths of mediocrity and obscurity to national prominence in the game.
"I took them from a decent Mid-American Conference School on the game to a perennial national power that makes Nick Saban look like a chump. One year my third string quarterback left school early to enter the NFL Draft, he was a first round pick. Boom," McComas wrote in his cover letter to UND Athletic Director, Brian Falson.
McComas' "chuck the pigskin" play calling, which trended on Twitter earlier Wednesday, would all be part of his new high-powered offense, dubbed the AIR RAID. To compliment the nickname, McComas asked for sirens to be placed in UND's home stadium: the Alerus Center.
McComas completed his resume with a Powerpoint presentation highlighting his winning strategies on Madden; a request for multiple, soon to be needed, trophy cases; that his fridge to be filled with Coke rather than Pepsi, and a promise to win championships and recruit only top-level talent.
There has been no official decision on the head coaching position at UND, yet. But if the people on social media had their way, then next year the University of North Dakota would be breaking out the sirens and getting ready to #ChuckThePigskin.
