One of the easiest and most educational field trips you can take your child on is to one of North Carolina's many wonderful museums. There is usually always something going on that will fascinate you - even if it has nothing to do with a unit of study that you are doing.
This month the North Carolina Museum of History has several events lined up. First up is History à la Carte: Life on the Water on Wednesday, January 13 from 12:10–1 p.m. This program will be led by Emmy Award winning filmmaker Neal Hutcheson. He will be discussing and screening excerpts from his forthcoming film Life on the Water: Documenting the Core Sound Fishing Communities.
Next on the calendar isa Program of Interest for children and families - Make It, Take It: Quilt Squares on
Saturday, January 16 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Learn about the layers of a quilt and make a stitch or two of your own. drop-in program
And finally on the calendar for January is a Program of Interest for children and families is the Ninth Annual African American Cultural Celebration on Saturday, January 30 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy a day of activities, crafts, entertainment, and foods in celebration of the state’s African American heritage and culture.
The Museum of History is located in downtown Raleigh on Edenton Street. Admission is free. So come and check out some great programs her at the museum even if you aren't studying any of the topics being offered, it will still be a wonderful learning experience for you and your kids.
