North Carolina man learns surgical clips left behind could be cause of pain (Video)

A Rutherford County, North Carolina, man recently found the cause of his years of pain was a surgical clip left behind by someone who may have forgotten to count what was used during surgery.

Finding a surgical clip left in the human body apparently is difficult, as this man had tried for years to get free from pain which may have been caused by just that. When this man, who only wants to be identified as Mr. R due to a pending lawsuit, was at a second emergency room in one day, he finally got someone to listen long enough to do some tests.

Often those who are considered frequent flyers by some hospitals because they are often at the emergency room are also sometimes thought to be using too much medication. Although they may not be doing anything that is illegal, they sometimes seek more medication than others because of their level of pain.

In this case, before the surgical clip was discovered, the man was in the hospital frequently and given more medication than the average person could tolerate. Physicians saw how his pain was not being managed well with the medications provided, but no one spotted the surgical clip.

As it turns out, there are several surgical clips still in this man, as revealed in recent tests. Apparently this happens more than the average person would like to think.

The photo of the surgical clip included with this article was received by this writer from the person who passed the clip after many efforts to determine what was causing his pain. The person was told after passing this clip that there are more surgical clips.

Those with some medical knowledge may say surgical clips are routinely used and are sometimes left behind to serve a purpose. After passing one of these surgical clips, this man has not received an answer as to why he has apparently been left with several surgical clips that may not be attached to anything.
