A Charlotte, North Carolina man has died from injuries he received after he fell off his horse while horseback riding over the weekend. Ted Johnson, 68, was riding Saturday at the Anne Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mill.
Johnson was airlifted by emergency helicopter to Charlotte’ Carolinas Medical Center where he remained in critical condition. According to York County Coroner Sabrina Gast, Johnson passed away from his injuries on Monday night.
The North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy and stated Johnson died of blunt trauma to the head after falling from a horse, ruling his death an accident.
Emergency Medical Services were summoned to the accident at 11 a.m. on Saturday after Johnson had fallen from his horse, a Tennessee Walking Horse. He was riding in the 2,100 acre nature preserve with two friends.
According to Denise Cubbedge, Anne Springs Close Greenway’s director of development,
Johnson frequently rode his horses at the greenway.
He was a friend. He boarded his horse at the greenway. He was very familiar with the greenway and close with staff members who worked at the horse barn.
