Norte Maar for Collaborative Projects for the Arts partners with Brooklyn Ballet to present the performance series, CounterPointe. Returning after its New York debut in 2012 and a London premiere in June, this series features dance works en pointe created by emerging and established female choreographers who are experimenting with and developing their work. It serves as a unique forum and is extremely important as the classical dance world, specifically pointe-work, has historically been dominated by male choreographers.
This year's Series features new works by Lynn Parkerson and Julia K. Gleich, as well as performances choreographed by Sheena Annalise of Arch Contemporary Ballet, Nikki Hefko, Morgan McEwen of MorDance, Alexa Valentine, and Eryn Renee Young of XAOC Contemporary Ballet.
CounterPointe will run for three nights at Brooklyn's The Actors Fund Arts Center beginning tomorrow, Friday Nov. 1, continuing through Sunday. Each performance will be followed by a Q & A with the choreographers. Tickets are only $20 for general admission and $15 for students or seniors and can be purchased here.
