The Northern Kentucky Norse snapped a number of streaks on Sunday at the Bank of Kentucky Center with an 87-71 win over Chattanooga.
The Norse (2-7) had six players finish in double figures to snap a three-game losing streak and a four-game skid at home this season. Jordan Jackson led the way with 16 points, six rebounds and three steals while Jalen Billups had 12. Anthony Monaco led the bench with 12 and Tyler White, Dean Danos, and Cole Murray each added 10. Martynas Bareika led the Mocs (4-7) with 29 points.
It looked like more of the same for the Norse to start as they fell into a 14-4 deficit. They responded with a 12-0 run of their own, capped by a four-point play by Murray. The two teams nearly went shot for shot as Jackson had the final say in the first half with a layup at the three second mark to make it 41-38 at the half.
The second half belonged to NKU from the get go as they went on a 26-7 run to start. The Norse held a 20 point lead for a majority of the second frame, with the Mocs only getting as close as 13 in the final minutes.
NKU remains at home for the rest of the week with Hampton (5-5) coming to town on Dec. 18 and then Navy (5-4) on Dec. 21. The Norse has one more non-conference game against No. 18 North Carolina on Dec. 27 before starting Atlantic Sun play against the defending champion and NCAA tournament spoiler, Florida Gulf Coast.
