Parents, how safe do you feel knowing that your children could be victimized by those hired to protect them? We hear stories about teachers and coaches sexually abusing students but it is rare when a bus driver is in the news for child molestation. I am not suggesting it does not happen as much as it does with other school officials and in fact it may even go unreported by other bus drivers. Usually, with bus drivers in the news, it has to do with drinking and driving or under the influences of drugs but this is the worst type of child endangerment.
Shawn McNeil, 26, a bus driver with the Normandy School District was charged with sexual misconduct of a 13-year old student on the bus. Charges include 2nd degree statutory sodomy and sexual contact on school property. Reportedly, this incident occurred on more than one incident over a period of at least 3-months. An unidentified person became suspicious following gossip at the school by students and then proceeded to contact the Department of Family Services (DFS).
Allegedly, McNeil kissed and fondled the child and coerced the child to touch him inappropriately as well. The incidents occurred at the school in the mornings after dropping the students off but the victim remained behind. It is unknown at this time whether sexual intercourse occurred between McNeil and the student. McNeil has been a bus driver with the school district for 3-years.
McNeil remains in custody on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
