The Boca Hawaii Norman Tamanaha 15K the race is scheduled for Sunday, August 24 at Kapiolani Park. The race will prompty start at 6:00 a.m. The race was rescheduled due to last week's hurricane Iselle and Julio watch due to the suspension of all event permits for that weekend. Registration is also open for the 15K and the Series, so be sure to spread the word!
Packet pick up for this event will be at Boca Hawaii on these days:
- Friday Aug. 22 from 12:00 noon - 6:00 p.m.
- Saturday Aug 23 from 12:00 noon - 5:00 p.m.
For off-island participants only, there will limited packet pick up between 4:30 a.m. and 4:50 a.m. on race day at Kapiolani Park. T-shirts not guaranteed. Shirt size's will not be exchanged at the packet pick up, so if you would like to exchange a shirt size please bring it to the race. If you need to pick up a packet for a friend, you may do so and be sure to tell your friend that you will be picking up their packet; trust us, people forget to tell their friends this all the time!

3 quick nutrition tips for runners
Most runners know that a sound nutrition plan is a key component to effective training and racing. Optimal recovery nutrition happens in a small window right after your run or workout. There are many things that you can do, such as planning ahead, meal prepping, or bringing a snack with you. Here are three quick tips for your nutritional needs.
- Listen to your body: what your craving can often be is just what your body needs. Something is better than nothing!
- Snack on snacks: always make sure that you have snacks with you, because it is much easier to have the exact fuel you want, rather than having to search for it.
- Eat what you love: prepare food ahead of time and include making your own snacks - not only will this save you money - but, you can add whatever you want to your recipe, keeping away from added sugars and preservatives.
Easy & Healthy Homemade Granola Bars
(Recipe adapted from Minimalist Baker)
2 cups pitted dates
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
3 cups old fashioned rolled oats
1/4 cup dried cranberries
1/4 cup golden raisins
1 cup roughly chopped raw almonds
1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
3/4 cup almond or peanut butter (natural style)
1/2 cup honey
Place dates in a small bowl and cover with water. Microwave on high for 2 minutes. Remove dates from microwave and place in food processor. Pulse until finely chopped.
In a small saucepan, combine nut butter and honey and melt over low heat, stirring to combine.
In a large bowl, place oats, dried fruit, nuts, cinnamon, salt and dates. Pour nut butter and honey mixture over the oats and stir to combine. Use your hands if you have to (coat them in cooking spray first) and really get everything mixed together. The oats will absorb the dates and nut butter mixture you just have to work it.
Spoon oat mixture into a parchment paper lined 13 x 9 dish and spread evenly. I like to use a piece of plastic wrap to press it down into the pan. Place in freezer until set, about 1 hour. Lift parchment out of the dish and slice into bars. Store in fridge or freezer.
Yield: about 20 bars
