Multi-talented Norman Reedus has done it again.
Not only is Reedus an actor, director, animal lover, and philanthropist – he is also a photographer. His debut book The Sun's Coming Up … Like a Big Bald Head, a hardcover book featuring photos from his international travels over the past 15 years, is available now for pre-order and will officially launch on October 31st.
The 132-page photography collection was curated by Reedus, and showcases his unique eye for capturing the daily lives of humans in stark but intense images. The photos include time spent visiting a Russian prison, Korean temples, and Mexican ruins. Many of the photos are spontaneous and unscripted, allowing a glimpse into Eastern European and Asian worlds that are not often accessed by Americans. On a lighter note, Reedus has also photographed models on the beach in odd masks, time spent working on a John Carpenter film, and a naked girl covered in blood sitting casually on a sofa.
In an interview with Lesley Goldberg from The Hollywood Reporter, Reedus talks about how he came to name his book The Sun’s Coming Up… Like a Big Bald Head, “As for the title of the collection -- which mirrors that of his Big Bald Head production company -- Reedus says it comes from Laurie Anderson's "Sharkey's Day" song that he heard at a concert his mother took him to at a young age.
"She liked the photos and agreed to let us use the title," Reedus says. "It was awesome because I'm a huge fan of hers. It’s just something that always stuck in my head as a kid. It's just such a dynamic performance that I just always remembered it."
In the same article, Reedus “notes that the book doesn't really have a specific theme but rather a philosophy of making "disturbing images beautiful."
Available now for a preorder price of $60 from his website, the book will launch on October 31st for the full price of $75. It includes forwards from Norman's Walking Dead co-star Andrew Lincoln, Blondie's Debbie Harry, Musician and Producer Howie B, and Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth.
