Dan,
I lead a pretty normal life. I have a nine-to-five job, and every night I come home, watch some shows on the television, play a few computer games, and go to bed. I've been this way for as long as I remember, and here lately I've been beginning to feel like it isn't normal to be this normal.
Is something wrong with me?
Mike from Tennessee
Mike,
Congratulations! The first step on the path to recovery is admitting that you have a problem. Now that you have admitted that you are suffering from normalcy you can do something about it! I would suggest searching your area for a Normal's Anonymous meeting. They aren't as popular as the other anonymous meetings -- most Americans are still suffering from being normal -- but they are a growing trend. If that fails, perhaps you can find a psychologist to treat you.
I can give you one exercise that might help break you out of your condition. Whenever you greet someone, instead of asking "What's up?" or "What's Happening," just look at them, smile as big as you can and ask, "What Shappening?" That's right. Just move that "s" over to the next word and remember to smile as big as you can. Pretty soon, you'll start feeling as goofy as that smile on your face looks.
Hope that helps,
Dan
