After two periods, Hartford trails Norfolk, 5-1.
After two periods, the score is 5-1, Norfolk.
The Admirals widen their lead to 3-1 just a minute into the third. At 0:57, Norfolk’s Adam Hall took a pass from behind the Wolf Pack net by Ryan Craig for Hall’s tenth of the year. Dana Tyrell has his second assist of the game after his missed shot bounced of the boards to Craig.
At 9:01, a fight between Hartford’s Derek Couture and Norfolk’s Ryan Craig happened literally IN the Admirals bench. It started with Craig checking Couture into the boards just before the Admirals’ bench starts. The Admirals were in the middle of a line chance, and the bench door was open. Couture started nudging Craig, and Craig fell through the open door and in to the bench. Craig got back up and showed he has great takedown skills by throwing Couture to the ice after a few jabs. It will go down as simply a fighting penalty for both of them, but happened in quite a unique location.
At 11:45 Nigel Williams took a wrist shot by Adam Hall to the right shin and needed to gingerly skate off the ice. Hockey player or not, a puck to the shin will tickle a bit.
At 12:07, Norfolk visited the red-light district yet again. Matt Lashoff had his sixth of the year on a five-hole wrister past Johnson. Paul Szczechura and Brandon Bochenski assisted Lashoff.
Following the goal, Miika Wiikman replaces Johnson in net. Johnson gave up four goals on twenty-one shots, and Coach Ken Gernander has seen enough.
Not more than ten seconds into his tenure, Wiikman does a great was of getting warmed up by stopping a five-hole attempt by Blair Jones.
Norfolk adds another goal at 17:52 to go on a 3-0 run. The goal was tipped in front by Brandon Bochenski to give him two on the night and eighteen on the year. Vladimir Mihalik and Scott Jackson assisted Bochenski.
The goalies for Hartford are making some saves, and when they do…GORGEOUS! Wiikman stops a shot by Mitch Fadden by a diving glove save from the butterfly. Thank goodness for stretching.
The Wolf Pack are down, the goaltending isn’t too pretty, and the Admirals have doubled Hartford in shooting, 30-15. It’s time for the Miracle Kid.
