Saturday morning thunderstorms threatened to put a damper on Ocean View’s most storied parade.
However, thanks to the luck of the Irish, the rain stopped just in time for party-goers to enjoy the 46th annual Norfolk Saint Patrick’s Day Parade.
Thousands of rain-soaked people of all ages lined Granby Street as early as 9:00 AM, loyally anticipating the annual parade while wearing their favorite green attire. There were Leprechaun shoes, green wigs, fuzzy antennas, knee-high polka dot socks, and many other St. Patty Day inspired costumes.
The Ocean View Mayor also made an appearance, chatting away with the crowd and entertaining them with surprisingly clever freestyles.
The crowd continued to increase after the parade ended, with hundreds more arriving via taxi or HRT bus. The over-21 crowd gradually turned their attention to the bars, most notably Mojo Bones and Greenies.
Greenies, which attracted hundreds of people based on their name alone, kept the crowd hype thanks to Draft Beer towers and multiple DJ’s who delivered a good mix of Top 40, Salsa, and Country.
Overall, the 46th annual Norfolk Saint Patrick’s Day Parade was a success.
If nothing else, this will probably be the most fun you’ll have in the rain this entire year.
