The GHSA Week 6 schedule includes 17 Gwinnett County public high schools playing in 10 games, seven intra-county and three non-county matchups, while Berkmar and North Gwinnett are on bye weeks. Big games include Dacula at Archer, Lanier at Monroe Area and Mill Creek at Norcross, as well as Shiloh and Grayson.
Game of the Week
Mill Creek (3-1, 1-1) and Norcross (2-2, 1-1) will face each other in what is a must-win game for the Blue Devils.
Gwinnett County Matchups:
The Archer Tigers (4-0, 2-0) are home against the Dacula Falcons (2-2, 2-0).
The Tigers, while 4-0, have only one Quality Win (East Cowetta) and will be facing a Falcons squad that is coming off a stunning upset last week against Grayson. Archer will win, but it will be a decided in the final quarter.
The Brookwood Broncos (0-3, 0-1) and Parkview Panthers (0-4, 0-2) will both be trying to earn their first win of the season when the take the field in Snellville.
The Panthers are the better team, yet looked outmatched in last week’s loss to Archer. The loss to the Tigers follows loses to Peachtree Ridge, Norcross and Grayson. The Broncos have lost big to McEachern (31-10) and Mill Creek (44-10), and fell to Archer 25-20. Look for this to be a down to the wire battle between two long time rivals. Parkview will come away with the W.
The Central Gwinnett Black Knights (1-2, 1-0) travel to Snellville to take on the South Gwinnett Comets 1-3, 0-2) in another of the many big county rivalry games.
This game is going to come down to turnovers. The teams are evenly matched talent wise, and both are struggling to establish an identity this season. Look for Central to win by less than a touchdown.
The Collins Hill Eagles (3-0, 1-0) travel to Lawrenceville to play the Bears of Mountain View (1-3, 1-1).
While the Bears have been outscored by Archer and Mill Creek, the two Gwinnett teams they have played, by a combined 79-3, as well as being held scoreless by Habersham Central last week in a 27-0 loss, the Eagles have outscored their opponents 98 to 16, and beat Habersham Central (the team that shutout the Eagles) 55-3 two weeks ago. This will be a one-sided contest with the Eagles winning big to remain undefeated.
Duluth (0-4, 0-2) visits Meadowcreek (0-3, 0-1) in a game that may well determine which team goes winless this season.
The Wildcat losses are by an average of 23 points, but at least they are averaging 13 points a game. The Mustangs have scored only 14 points in three games while surrendering 146, 48 a game. Duluth will win by TD.
The Grayson Rams (1-3, 0-1) and Shiloh Generals (3-1, 1-1) will meet in Loganville in what is going to be a gut check for the Rams.
The Rams started the season as a top national team, and have since dropped three-of-four games. They have been outscored 80-47, including a 35-0 loss to North Gwinnett, during that span. Meanwhile, the Generals are averaging 34 points a game, while giving up just 12.
Look for Shiloh to improve to 4-1 overall with an upset of traditional powerhouse Grayson that will drop the Rams to 1-4.
Gwinnett County vs. Non-County Matchups:
The Buford Wolves (3-2, 0-0), ranked second in the state overall, will host Banks County (0-4, 0-1) and will have another big win.
The Wolves have outscored their opponents 147 to 21, including a 38-14 win on the road against Gainesville, and the Leopards do not have the talent to stay close. Buford will score early and often on their way to the win.
Lanier (4-0, 1-0) will be on the road against Monroe Area (4-0, 1-0) in a battle of undefeated teams.
The Longhorns will not be able to match the offensive firepower of the Hurricanes and will head home with their first loss of the season. Lanier will stay within striking distance, but look for Monroe Area to take control late third quarter and win by a couple of scores.
Peachtree Ridge (4-0, 2-0) is home against Habersham Central (0-4, 0-2) in a game that will be a Lion blowout.
Peachtree Ridge is scoring 34 points a game, while Central is giving up 41. The Lions will light up the board against the Raiders.
