NorCal golf update

Old news; Isaac Sanchez, as a member of Team Rice while paired with NFL great Jerry Rice and Emily Talley from Napa, won the Golf Channel's Big Break NFL Puerto Rico. Along with his win came an exemption into the PGA Tour's Fed-X St. Jude Classic. The trouble is that tournament is scheduled for June.

New thought; what if Isaac received a sponsor exemption to play in the upcoming AT&T Pebble Beach ProAm? Think about this, a guy nicknamed "Sasquatch" loses a ball in the woods at Spyglass? Hmm. There's a photo op with storyline.

What if Isaac were to make the cut and make some magic happen on Sunday on the back nine? A guy with a Fu Manchu, pierced eyebrow and neck tattoos. Wow! Stallone would want the movie rights to, "Isaac, Golf's Ultimate Dreamer," Que the theme music.

Who knows if organizers would even consider giving him a spot, it's just a random reporter's thought. That's okay too as there are plenty of celebrities and Tour players that will bring their own magic to the Monterey Penninsula during the week of Feb. 3-9. Advance sale tickets are $50 per day if you purchase before the end of January. Go to And, congrats to Isaac his dream continues.

Tiger Woods will be honored at the California Golf Writers & Broadcasters Association banquet at Pebble as he will be inducted into the California Golf Hall of Fame. That would usually indicate that Tiger may be planning on playing in the event. Stay tuned, no confirmation yet.

According to the current list posted on the tournament website, confirmed Northern California Tour pros include Nick Watney, Spencer Levin, Scott McCarron, Ricky Barnes, and James Hahn. Defending champion is Brandt Snedeker.

Locals watch: Congrats to Jim Ferrin, Course Superintendent and Director of Landscape at Sun City Timber Creek Golf Course and Sierra Pines Golf Course in Roseville. Ferrin was honored by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of Nor Cal for, Turfgrass Excellence within the Public Category.
