Monkey see, monkey do!
On December 9th, the second installment of the NorCal Free Flight Film Festival was held at the historic Roxie Theater in San Francisco’s Mission district. Of the more than 250 attendees, most were a combination of local skydivers, BASE jumpers, hang gliders, paragliders and other monkeys. There were nineteen submissions by local pilots, and the judging was tough. Winners, overall and in each category, were awarded prizes from the sponsors including North Face, GoPro Cameras, iFly SF Bay Indoor Skydiving, and Ozone Paragliders. The free Pale Moon Belgian Ale was flowing, spirits were high, and the crowd had an amazing night.
The footage included large freefly formations, paragliding in the Himalaya, hang gliding in Yosemite, canopy pond swooping, CRW in China and BASE jumping all over the world. A few different genres were represented as well. The overall winner, “Skyward Journey” by Rex Pemberton was the “epic.” There was the inspirational story “Infinite Stumbling” by Nova Dasalla, the documentary “Eves Tall Chief” by David Royer, and Andy DeMars' short comedy/smash-em-up submission “Four Easy Steps.”
The organizers are planning an expansion of the event with a spring festival in Lake Tahoe, and a series of festivals for next season’s films all throughout the Bay Area, and possibly Southern California.
All the submissions can be viewed HERE.
