For the second consecutive year, Nora Roberts’ name appears on the list of thirty celebrities who are major donors to charity. The 2011 “Giving Back 30” list, released on Dec. 19, 2011 by the Giving Back Fund, reflects charitable contributions made during 2010.
Roberts ranks fifth on the current list. Through her Nora Roberts Foundation, she donated $3,000,000 during 2010 in support of literacy and humanitarian efforts, children's programs and arts organizations.
Actress Jami Gertz her husband Antony Ressler head the 2011 Giving Back 30, donating $10,569,002. They are followed by musician Herb Alpert ($9,104,829), actor Mel Gibson ($6,853,020) and producer George Lucas ($4,250,000).
The Giving Back Fund acquires the data for its list from public records. According to Marc Pollick, the organization’s President and Founder, the Giving Back Fund publicizes these donations as a means of “encouragement by example.”
“One cannot help but be influenced by the generosity of his or her peers,” Pollick stated on the Giving Back Fund’s website. “We are also often asked by the media and the public about which celebrities actually give the largest donations to charitable causes so we decided it made sense to publish the research for all to see.”
2011 marks the fifth year the Giving Back Fund has issued its list of the thirty celebrities who are the most generous charity donors. Roberts first appeared on the list in 2010, ranked in second position for her donations during 2009.
