Nora Collins played three sets at Milwaukee Zoo a la Carte Saturday afternoon August 17, giving the young starlet the opportunity to win over new fans and likewise give those already in the know multiple opportunities to hear their favorite songs. Collins played sets heavy with tracks from her brand new CD "Only The Beginning" and select songs from her sophomore release "Run Away With Me," as well as a few covers by artists such as Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood and Alison Krauss that gave insight and context to what influences Collins as a musician. Nora is wrapping up a busy summer schedule that has seen her play at Summerfest, Bastille Days, Waukesha County Fair, Washington County Fair and numerous other high profile concerts throughout Wisconsin.
Collins gave the Milwaukee Zoo crowd a remarkable glimpse into what makes her so special as a musician. Nora's honey-drenched vocals sparkled with a maturity and depth beyond her 19 years, and her performances of songs like "Nothing To Do With Me," "Harley," and "Dimples Filled With Lies" most exemplified Nora's potent and evocative original tunes yesterday afternoon. Collins, through hard work and superior song crafting, is defining her destiny before the very eyes of her audience who are growing in numbers everyday. It was refreshing to witness first-hand new fans stumble upon Nora playing and moments later feel so moved by the music that they were compelled to buy "Only The Beginning" because of what they just heard. It's powerful and beautiful and a gift that Milwaukee has amongst us someone as universally talented and inspiring as Nora Collins.
