In an exclusive report published September 11, 2010 the Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog revealed that Swedish actress Noomi Rapace will take on the female lead role in the upcoming Warner Brothers production, Sherlock Holmes 2. Heat Vision speculates that Rapace will play the role of a French gypsy in this sequel to Sherlock Holmes, the controversial 2009 film directed by Guy Ritchie.

Legions of film viewers know Rapace as Lisbeth Salander, the role she played in the original three films based on Stieg Larsson’s bestselling Millennium triology – The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. Although Rapace has had a long career in the Swedish film industry, Sherlock Holmes 2 will provide her first English speaking role.

Sherlock Holmes 2 brings Robert Downey Jr. back in the role of Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law as Dr. John Watson. Collider.com adds that Rachel McAdams will also continue as Irene Adler – though not in a lead role – and that Professor Moriarty will appear in the sequel. Daniel Day-Lewis, Sean Penn, Javier Bardem and Gary Oldman are among the actors who have been mentioned for the role of Moriarty, Sherlock Holmes' archenemy.

Guy Ritchie will once again direct the sequel. Joel Silver, Susan Downey, Lionel Wigram and Dan Lin continue as producers.
