Last night Barnes & Noble unveiled Nook, its new ereader that will be available the end of November. The Nook will sell for $259, and will compete with the Kindle 2 from Amazon with a mass number of book titles and wireless downloads available. It will also feature AT&T wireless downloads via 3G network or Wi-Fi.

The Nook weighs just 11.2 ounces and is 7.7 x 4.9 x .5 inches, it has 2 Gbytes of internal memory and will hold about 1,500 titles. It has a MicroSD slot that will increase capacity, it also has a 16-Gbyte card that will hold an additional 17,500 e-books.

Nook owners can lend books for two weeks to other users of the Barnes & Noble Bookstore, whether they own a Nook, iPhone, Blackberry, or a computer to read their books.

One advantage that Nook owners will have that Kindle customers don’t is the retail support. Barnes and Noble is the largest bookstore in the world and has more than 700 stores.
Kate Spade, Jack Spade, and Jonathan Adler have developed stylist cases for the Nook which will also be sold at Barnes and Noble stores. Pre-orders are now being accepted for the Nook at nook.com.
