Non-combat incident takes life of Rhode Island Airman

This morning, Mar. 3, 2014, the Department of Defense announced the non-combat death of an Airman who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Master Sgt. David L. Poirier, 52, of North Smithfield, Rhode Island, died Feb. 28, 2014, from a non-combat related incident.

Operation Enduring Freedom missions are conducted in countries around the world; the Pentagon did not release information on where this Airman was stationed at the time of his death.

The military is investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident. The cause of death was not released.

Master Sgt. Poirier was assigned to the 157th Operations Support Squadron, Pease Air National Guard Base, N.H.
