Earlier this morning, nominations for the 82nd Academy Awards were announced. The most nominations this year are for Avatar and The Hurt Locker, each with nine nominations, followed by Inglorious Basterds, trailing with eight nominations, and tied for third are Precious and Up in the Air with six nominations.
Also, this marks the first year since 1992 that an animated film will have been nominated for Best Picture, with Up getting nominated (the last one was for Beauty and the Beast). This will also be the first year that the Best Picture category will feature 10 films instead of 5.
Here are the nominees for the major categories at this year's forthcoming Academy Awards:
Best Picture: Avatar, The Blind Side, District 9, An Education, The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds, A Serious Man, Up, and Up in the Air.

Best Actor: Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart, George Clooney for Up in the Air, Colin Firth for A Single Man, Morgan Freeman for Invictus, and Jeremy Renner for The Hurt Locker.
Best Actress: Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side, Helen Mirren for The Last Station, Carey Mulligan for An Education, Gabourey Sibide for Precious, and Meryl Streep for Julie & Julia.
Best Director: Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker, James Cameron for Avatar, Lee Daniels for Precious, Jason Reitman for Up in the Air, and Quentin Tarantino for Inglourious Basterds.
Best Original Screenplay: Mark Boal for The Hurt Locker, Quentin Tarantino for Inglourious Basterds, Alessandro Camon and Oren Moverman for The Mesenger, Joel Coen and Ethan Coen for A Serious Man, and Bob Peterson and Pete Docter for Up.
