Friday, Mar. 22, 2013, is the extended deadline to submit nominations for the 28th Annual LAC Literacy Recognition Awards. With these awards, Literacy Assistance Center (LAC), located in Lower Manhattan, focuses attention on the accomplishments of individual practitioners and the literacy field.
This spring, the awards ceremony will be held on Monday, May 20, at the Theresa Lang Community and Student Center Auditorium of the New School. Located at 55 West 13 Street, on the second floor. It begins at 10 a.m.
For the past 27 years, LAC has honored “over 170 local literacy practitioners” with the support of the Book Industry Guild of New York and many other affiliates. Since the 2004 award ceremony, awardees’ programs have received a library development grant from the guild.
Peers, supervisors and students may nominate candidates who are:
- Counselors, program administrators, staff developers, support staff, teachers or volunteers
- Employed in a program in basic education, basic education in the native language, ESOL, family literacy, GED, health literacy, math or a related area
