If you're a gamer in any way, the name Nolan Bushnell should be a name you instantly recognize. Bushnell is often credited as being the inventor of video games, even thought people before him came up with the concept (ask Ralph Baer). The reason he get's this credit is because he's the guy behind Pong, the biggest video game of the early gaming era, and the creator of Atari as a whole. He also created Chuckie Cheese.
At the recent Southern Interactive Entertainment and Games Expo (SIEGE), Bushnell made a comment that really shows he's far from being the video game brain he once was.
“No one over the age of 8 will be playing with their DS,” Bushnell said during the expo. He also went onto say that the future of gaming is on the iPhone, iPad, and Android platforms.
Apparently Bushnell has only recently heard of the DS, and doesn't have a clue as to how many teenagers/adults play the system, and that's quite a bit. He went onto say that bioimplants and brain/eye tracking are going to be a part of gaming in the future. Hopefully he's wrong on this too.
I'm sorry, but Bushnell is easily way off track here when it comes to his thinking. I understand he's a brilliant mind, or was thirty years ago, but these days his opinions and thoughts are easily laughable. He's been of track for quite some time, and only seems to continue down that odd path.
The iPhone and iPad will never be fully functional video game players, nor will they be the future of gaming. For these products gaming is just an additional feature, and gaming does not effect if people buy an iPad or iPhone. If this made a difference, Apple would be more worried about producing a gaming system rather then a phone or multimedia device.
