The Nokomis High School Warriors of Newport finished off an undefeated season by capturing the state Class B Field Hockey Championship over York on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Olivia Brown scored the only goal in the game with five minutes left in the second half.
It was the second state championship for the Warriors in the last four years. Nokomis defeated York 2-0 in the 2010 state game.
Nokomis coach Katie Thompson said, "I'm overwhelmed by their dedication and their driving force for success,"
The Warriors and Wildcats have played in the state field hockey championship three times in the last six years. York won the title with a 1-0 victory over Nokomis in 2008.
Nokomis finished the season 18-0. York finished 17-1.
The East won all three field hockey state championships.
Skowhegan defeated Scarborough 4-1 to capture the class A state championship for the 12th time in the last 13 years. The Indians have won 76 consecutive games.
The Foxcroft Ponies defeated North Yarmouth Academy 1-0 to earn the class C state title.
Madison Fadley scored the winning goal for the Ponies. Fadley also scored the game winner in the Eastern Maine final victory over Winslow.
Brianna Skolfield made four key saves including a diving save to secure the title for the Ponies.
Skolfield and the Ponies recorded 17 shutouts and only allowed one goal all season.
