There has been a lot of speculation surrounding two new Windows Phone devices from Microsoft for the past few months, and if recent reports are true, one of the two new phones could hit the market at the end of August. A post on popular, and historically accurate Vietnamese blog Winphoneviet that was posted on Aug. 11, suggests that the Nokia Lumia 730 (aka Superman) will launch at the end of August for roughly $250.
The rumor about the Superman phone has been around for a while, and it is likely to be the ‘ultimate selfie’ phone, Stephen Elop (head of Microsoft’s mobile division) was likely talking about in a recent internal memo. The new leak which clearly shows the device comes courtesy of a Vietnamese cellphone carrier called Zing.
The Lumia 730 is said to sport a 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 720p, a 6.1-megapixel rear facing camera with Carl Zeiss lens, a Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor, Adreno 305 GPU,1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage (with support for 128GB SD cards), support for dual SIM cards, and a super light design polycarbonate body. The front facing camera will undoubtedly be the star of the device, with the 5-megapixel front facing shooter taking center stage. The Lumia 730 will ship with both Windows Phone 8.1, and the new update 1 software pre-installed.
There are a few other design elements included in this device that have not been seen before in a Windows Phone device. Every Windows Phone smartphone that has hit the market since the platforms launch in 2010 has featured a dedicated camera shutter button the side, and capacitive controls on the front of the device, but both of these elements have been omitted from the Lumia 730, with on screen controls replacing both the camera button and capacitive controls.
Thanks to the support for dual SIM cards, it’s clear to see that the mid-range Lumia 730 has been designed for emerging markets. Presently it is not clear if the Lumia 730 will hit North American, and European shores, but with a price of just $250 off contract, there is no doubt that the ‘selfie phone’ would be a huge hit in any market that is fortunate enough to receive it.
The Lumia 730 is a massive upgrade over the Nokia Lumia 720 that it will be replacing, and thanks to the included 1GB of RAM, the phone will be able to install and utilize every single one of the 300,000 apps that now inhabit the Windows Phone application store.
If you are in the market for a new Windows phone device, and you love taking selfies, you might want to check out the new phone at the end of August.
