Noise Polution

“To suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear” (2 Tim 4:3)
If we ponder this verse, which was one of Paul’s final comments to Timothy, there is a truckload of wisdom for you and I today. In this modern world of connectivity, we can allow ourselves to receive worldly messages 24/7. We don’t have to be sitting in our den watching TV, or driving in our car listening to the radio, we can be anywhere, anytime, with our smart phones or iPads, and seek and absorb more “worldly stuff”. Noise pollution. That is what most of it is. Distractions from what we should be seeking and absorbing. Unless? It is said that you can download something like 750,000 different apps (applications) to your iPhone or Android smart phone. Among them are a number of free apps that give you instant access – anywhere, anytime – to the bible (pick NIV, KJV – whatever you preference is), or daily devotionals (which can be automatically emailed to you each morning). My point today is that modern technologies allow millions of people to reach out to us throught TV, radio, email, Facebook, Google, etc and literally drown us in information, appeals and opinions – and steal God’s gift of our time – detracting us from seeking God, absorbing His word and running His race. We have a choice. We can allow the noise pollution to continue to lead us down paths that are outside of God’s will for our lives and do nothing toward accomplishing His Great Commission, or we can say “Enough”, channel our time, energy and focus on seeking to better know our Lord & Savior, His purpose for our lives and live within His will. Then, like Paul said to Timothy, you can say, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
