BANGOR- Liz Noddin (Skowhegan) scored the game winning goal just 1:47 into overtime to lead the Husson Eagles to a 3-2 college field hockey victory over the University of New England Sunday afternoon.
Sabrina Vaillancourt (Nokomis) gave the Eagles a lead early in the first half. Vaillancourt put a shot past UNE goalie Holly Smith. Mariah Arno (Foxcroft) recorded the assist.
Britt Mellor (Belfast) gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead, when she scored at the end of the first half.
The Eagles were shut out in the second half, while UNE scored two goals to send the game into overtime.
Maicee Gustin (Dexter) was a huge reason the game went into overtime. Gustin recorded 15 second half saves, and 17 total for the game.
Husson (1-1) will travel to Springfield College next weekend on the seventh and eighth to play in the Zenaty Invitational.
Husson will play Plymouth State at 1:15 on Saturday, while Sunday's opponent and game time is TBA.
The Husson women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision against Western New England on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles men's soccer team will host the New Balance Challenge Cup on September sixth and seventh.
Husson football will play their opener when they travel to Hartwick next weekend.
