Nodar Kumaritashvili killed during Olympic training luge crash (see video of crash). Nodar Kumaritashvili, the men’s Olympic luge slider crashed his sled during a luge training ride Friday morning. He flipped over the wall and crashed into a pole, as his sled continued down the track. Nodar Kumaritashvili was practicing at the Whistler location of the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. The photo on the left shows a still shot of Kumaritashvili coming over the wall.
Kumaritashvili quickly lost control of his sled and his body went above the track and into a pole alongside the track. He was rushed to hospital via an air rescue helicopter and was pronounced dead at the hospital. People at the scene said that CPR was being performed on Kumaritashvili.
Kumaritashvili, 21, was from the Soviet Republic of Georgia. The graphic crash video is below. The accident happens very quickly.

You laugh, you luge.
I've seen very little luge in my life, but even I have seen these guys being dropped out after a big turn like that... what's wrong with the designers and authorities to allow a row of piles next to the track?
