Noah's Ark round? Ancient tablet with 69 lines upsets popular belief

Was Noah's Ark round? According to a 60-line passage etched on a 4000-year-old Mesopotamia clay tablet, the large vessel depicted in the story of Noah's Ark was not a typical sailing vessel as people picture the modern-day boat to be.

This ancient tablet touches on the biblical story of Noah's ark and is on display at the British Museum in London. Haaretz reported Jan. 25 that curator Irving Finkel translated the cuneiform passage and calls it a "one in a million" discoveries and one of the most important pieces of information in human history. The vessel in Noah's Ark was round and called a coracle. It was two-thirds the size of a soccer field and created from rope, wood, and bitumen.

Also included in the Noah's Ark tablet is how animals were ordered to enter "two by two."

This Noah's Ark round discovery was written around 1750 BC and is totally opposite in description as two other accounts that were closely related to each other -- Babylonian and biblical.

The report added, "As Finkel describes it, 'when the gods decided to wipe out mankind with a flood, the god Enki, who had a sense of humour, leaked the news to a man called Atra-hasis, the ‘Babylonian Noah,’ who was to build the Ark."

Atra-hasis’s Ark was round, Finkel said. He said no one has ever considered that a possibility.

What do you think of Noah's Ark having a round a vessel in this latest find?
