As the stars begin to arrive on the Red Carpet Sunday evening outside the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, there's a notable contingency of celebrities missing - WWE stars turned Hollywood actors.
* HOLLYWOOD FEARS CHARLIE SHEEN WILL CRASH THE OSCARS TONIGHT
So far, there's been no sighting of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson - a former WWE superstar who has made a big name for himself in recent years as an actor. From The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King, Dwayne Johnson has starred i no shortage of Hollywood blockbusters, but The Rock is still considered to be a wrestler first and an actor second.
At this time, despite his absence on Oscar night, it isn't apparent if Johnson couldn't make it or if he simply wasn't invited. The night, however, is still young and The Rock may still turn up before the lights go down and hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco take the stage as hosts of the 83rd annual Academy Awards.
Also noticeably absent tonight at other WWE superstars who have endeavored to make names for themselves on the silver screen. So far, John Cena, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, Triple H, and even Chris Jericho are nowhere to be found on the red carpet.
The lack of WWE star-power on the red carpet underscores a lingering problem that the world of sports entertainment faces. Illustrated yet again tonight at the Oscars is the stark reality that Hollywood still frowns upon professional wrestlers. And it doesn't appear this situation will change any time soon.
