Shaun White did not win his third Olympic gold medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. The American failed to win any medal during the competition. According to a February 11 report by Fox Sports, Louri Podladtchikov, from Russia, won the gold and Shaun White came in fourth.
The silver medal went to Ayumu Hirano and Taku Hiraoka took home the bronze medal. Both of these teenagers are from Japan. This was the first time Americans did not win a medal since the halfpipe became an Olympic event in 1998.
Many halfpipe competitors complained about conditions of the halfpipe in Sochi, calling it “too vertical on the sides,” “soft” and “sloshy.” Despite the poor conditions of the halfpipe, it did not give one competitor an advantage over any others.
Shaun White ended up in fourth place, just off the Olympic podium. His final score was 90.25. Louri Podladtchikov had a score of 94.75.
Despite the loss of the gold medal, there is always the next Winter Olympics. Shaun White will only be 31 years old in 2018. At the time of publications, it was unknown if he is even considering competing in the next Olympics.
