Adam Lambert's fans campaigned over the past few weeks for him to sing the national anthem at the 2012 Super Bowl, but unfortunately were unsuccessful. They created a Twitter "Twitition," as well as a Facebook page for people to sign in his support. The campaign even resulted in several news articles, spreading the word beyond just Adam's fans. However, despite their attempt, Adam was not invited to sing.
According to a report from the Associated Press yesterday, Kelly Clarkson will be singing the national anthem at the 2012 Super Bowl. Kelly will be the fourth American Idol alum to have this honor, with the others including Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Jordin Sparks. All of these women have been well-known artists for longer than Adam Lambert, so there is always a chance he could be asked to sing the national anthem at a future Super Bowl. Or better yet, if his next album is as successful as many think it will be, maybe he will be asked to perform at the 2013 Super Bowl half time show!
Adam was asked earlier this week if he knew about the fan petition in an interview, to which he replied: "That is so flattering and sweet. Who knows if it will happen. I do love to sing the national anthem. It's a good song. I've done it a few times. And I'm a very proud American, so we'll see what happens." Adam knows that his fans have always got his back, and apparently even campaign to get him gigs when he is not aware of it. It comes as a disappointment to some that Adam isn't singing at the Super Bowl this year, but undoubtedly Kelly Clarkson will do a fantastic job!
