No struggles for Ada-Borup in opening round (Photos)

Ada-Borup's Shaina Stevenson led the Cougars to a 69-17 win over Rothsay (17-7) in the opening round of the Minnesota section 6, class 1A girls basketball tournament.

The north half's top seeded Cougars (23-3) and newly crowned Pine-to-Prairie conference champions blew the gates open with a 24-2 run, which eventually reached a 49-9 mark at the game's half Thursday in Ada.

Rothsay's forced and unforced turnovers equally allowed for the monstrous Ada-Borup scoring uproar, taking the Tigers out of contention in the first half.

Three Ada-Borup juniors scored in double-digit figures. Stevenson, Heidi Eggen and Monica Vega scored 15, 12 and 10 points, respectively.

In her last game on her home court in Ada, senior Megan Kolness scored 8 points.

Ada-Borup will play fourth seeded Waubun at Concordia College's Memorial Auditorium in Moorhead on Saturday at 1 p.m.
