Barbara Walters announced on Monday morning that despite a plethora of news reports to the contrary, there are no plans for Elisabeth Hasselbeck to leave The View, as is being commonly reported.
"There is a particularly false story that keeps getting picked up saying that we don't approve of Elisabeth's personal views," said Walters, pointing to the well-known conservative's stance. "We like Elisabeth and her point of view because Elisabeth helps give the show balance."
While it is true that Joy Behar is leaving The View, don't look for any announcements from the younger, blonder side of the table just yet.
"Last Thursday, Joy announced that she wanted to leave The View and pursue other passages that she'll tell you about," Walters said. "I sort of feel that I discovered you. We've been together 16 1/2 years."
Behar then launched into "Joy's Top Ten Reasons for Leaving The View" with stuff like...
#10 - ABC won't let me drink on the air like Hoda and Kathie Lee
#9 - The glare from Bill Geddie's baldhead is getting to her..
She riffed a bit about Sherri's cleavage and Whoopi's contact high before they addressed the elephant in the room.
"We have no plans for Elisabeth to leave this show," Barbara stated. "Having said that, Bill and I have always said that when one of you makes the choice to leave, that's your decision."
This Christian TV reporter, for one, is glad that Elisabeth is staying on, and found myself praying in the Holy Spirit for her on my walk in the woods this morning. I like Elisabeth and dislike the way folks gang up on her for stating her viewpoint.
After all, she represents a necessary political vista and I thought to myself, if she leaves, it would be a totally liberal show and not representative of the country. Secondly, I wondered where she would go and didn't like the idea of her being forced out. But no matter, I knew she would land on her feet.
Bless God she's staying…for now.
