When Naughty Dog first announced the Season Pass for The Last of Us, it was revealed that two of the included add-ons would add multiplayer content while the third DLC will introduce a new single-player storyline. However, fans shouldn’t be hopeful to receive any additional single-player story packs outside of the game’s Season Pass. As reported by Joystiq on Jan 24, Naughty Dog Community Strategist Eric Monacelli confirmed that there is currently no future plans to develop more story-based DLC packs after Left Behind while answering questions on the European Playstation Blog.
After being asked about future projects, Monacelli simply responded with the following.
There’s multiplayer DLC up next. We don’t have any more single player DLC planned.
Releasing next month, The Last of Us: Left Behind will give fans the opportunity to once again visit the title’s post-apocalyptic world. The DLC acts as a prologue to the game’s main campaign, telling the events that would eventually begin Ellie’s quest across a ruined United States.
Since the add-on will take place before Ellie meets Joel, the teenager will instead be partnered with her best friend Riley. As the two wander through the remains of an old-world shopping mall, the DLC will focus more on exploration rather than combat. However, Naughty Dog has added new mechanics to the combat system specifically for the add-on so players should still expect to see their fair share of action.
The Last of Us is out now as a Playstation 3 exclusive. The Left Behind DLC is set to release on Feb 14.
