No open casting calls planned for 'The Hunger Games' movie

Fans eager to learn about casting opportunities for The Hunger Games movie will be disappointed to hear that casting director Debra Zane is planning no open casting calls.

When Lionsgate announced earlier this week that it had hired Zane to handle casting, executives said Zane would pursue actors through professional channels. And while producers are open to hiring unknown actors, this means that a "cattle call" style open casting is not likely.

Zane further confirmed today that no open casting calls are planned, when approached by the fan site Down With The Capitol. Their query was in response to claims from a follower of the HGT Fansite's Facebook page, who claimed Zane would be holding open auditions.

Just to be clear, Zane says there is no open casting planned for The Hunger Games right now.

Furthermore, the people at Debra Zane Casting have asked fans to please refrain from calling or emailing their office with inquiries about casting lead roles or extras in the film.

Debra Zane Casting told DWTC that an official announcement will be made if the need for an open casting arises.

this totally sucks! they have been saying for mouths that we could at least apply, they'll probably pick some dumb girly girl who doesn't even know how to shoot an arrow and who only ever went hungry when trying to loose a couple pounds.

Don't worry all! Just because they're not doing an 'open call' doesnt mean it will go to a 'celebrity' . . . there are tons of kids/teens who have been working really hard for a number of years, training, going on auditions, etc who will be competing for this, when one of them gets the role it will be their big break . . . just because the project doesn't go to a 'fan' doesn't mean it won't go to someone who has been working really hard and is just as passionate about the books as a superfan is. If you really want to be in a movie like this or one in the future, take acting classes, get an agent, and work your butt off like the rest of the kids who want to be actors and actresses do.
